Hintonburg has historically stood out as a working class neighbourhood, as one can see from the housing in this picture. The decline of the neighbourhood made it more affordable for those of an artistic bent, who are beginning to leave their own mark on the neighbourhood. Hintonburg is now designated as the Arts District of Ottawa.

funny how that happens: artists re-invigorate an area, yuppies move in, prices rise and force out the artists that regenerated the area in the first place. wonder where the next arts district will be??
