Camera: Canon Powershot A40. Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay.
On our last day in South America, Meera and I decided to take a day trip to Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay. Colonia is across the river - a mere 45 kilometre crossing! We took the buque bus - a fast ferry - across, and spent the day there. Colonia is a little town that has preserved much of the walled fortress city. Colonia is actually one of the oldest South american towns, and spent many years being traded back and forth between the Portuguese and Spanish.
I had two major disappointments about Colonia. The first occurred about an hour after we arrived, when in the space of a few minutes, my K10D's battery meter went from full to empty in about three shots. Hence, the use of Meera's Canon for some of the shots I took. The second was that while we were taking a bus tour of the area, we passed a bull fighting ring that was built about 100 years ago, replete with its own railways station. We did NOT stop for this, of course, favouring the chintzy souvenir shop a few kilometres down the road - just a bit too far for me to run back and take shots of the bull fighting ring. Nonetheless, Colonia was a beautiful little town, and I'm glad we went.
What a great looking cafe. Really nice. (Coca-Cola is everywhere:-)

Nice. I have a bit of a fascination with Coke related signage and it's great to see one from South America instead of the American south.

Wow what a neat perspective of the street view! I love the black and white, it makes it that much more artistic!

Looks like a great place to spend the day drinking wine and stuffing ones face with fine food.
